The girls’ only camps, which are now in their third year, cater for 7-12 year olds with the aim of increasing the number of girls playing football and to improve their skills in a fun, structured and a safe coaching environment. As the camps will be girls only, it will give the participants an opportunity to participate amongst their peers. All of the coaches at the camps are FAI accredited, referenced and Garda vetted local clubs to ensure that girls wishing to continue playing have an option to do so.
Each participant receives a special Soccer Sister Kit as well as excellent week long coaching.
Speaking at the launch of the 2011 Aviva Soccer Sister programme, Women’s Football National Coordinator, Paul Cleary said: “For the past two years this programme was a great success, with girls taking part in the camps all over Ireland. This programme is a great way to introduce girls to football and many of our previous participants are now playing regular club football because they enjoyed their experience so much.”
Also speaking was Gerry Daly of leading insurer, Aviva, who said: “The Aviva Soccer Sisters camps are a fantastic way to increase the reach of football in communities throughout Ireland and help to improve teamwork as well as sports skills. With over 100 years of experience in Ireland Aviva already plays its part in communities throughout the country with insurance, investments and savings services for 1.2m people and we are proud now to be able to support the Aviva Soccer Sisters with the FAI.”
